home of purple reign
Okaloosa Public Arts completed an exciting project, placing a sedge of 20 herons scattered about Okaloosa County.
The great blue heron is symbolic throughout our local area and are found in our inland rivers, lakes, and beaches. They can be observed on the Florida, on bridges or piers, the beach, the bays, and local rivers. Okaloosa County also has several heron rookeries, including the one on Okaloosa Island at Veterans Park and one next to the coast guard station.
The Okaloosa Public Arts Project described the heron as “…elegant, beautiful and stately, a beautiful piece of art in nature which we hope to help preserve through our public arts…. Our goal is to help raise awareness of the arts in our beautiful community and make art available to everyone in public places.”
Helen Harris of HH Arts, is one of the local artists selected to create one of the 20 herons. Her heron, Purple Reign, resides at HH Arts.
